  • Every school needs a written School Safety Plan
  • Required by Calif. Administrative Code
  • Staff should be prepared to handle crisis
  • Know what to expect from your law enforcement
    agency

  • Pre-designated signal for alerting staff
  • Pre-designate staff members to assist police
  • Lockdown or evacuating procedures
  • Plans for quickly accounting for students
  • Central location for maps, blueprints, keys

    backup/SWAT

Dynamic Intervention
  • What type of action should occur?
  • During a dynamic situation in a major crisis
    should expect two types of police intervention
  • Contact team Rescue team

Contact Team
  • First officers on the scene
  • Mission Stop gunman/attacker
  • Moving expeditiously to sound of gunfire
  • Bypass victims if suspect is actively shooting
  • Note location of victim(s) notify rescue
    officers

Rescue Team
  • Secondary team of subsequent arriving officers
  • Mission Locate, remove or escort victims away
    from danger
  • Good communication with Contact team

  • When the incident originally occurs, the suspect
    has the advantage.
  • As time goes on, that advantage shifts to the
    police.
