  • Dear Parents
  • Welcome to the new school year at River Ridge
Elementary. It is my privilege and pleasure to
have your child in my class. I am anticipating a
very exciting and productive 2009-2010 school
year. It is my goal, as your childs teacher, to
provide a positive and stimulating learning
environment in which each student can enjoy
success and fulfill their academic, social, and
    creative potential.
  • I hope this handbook will assist you by answering
any questions that you may have concerning
classroom policies. Please feel free to contact
me if you have any questions. You may reach me at
school via e-mail _at_ (adrienne.harless _at_
ccboe.net) If you would like to visit the
classroom during school or need to schedule a
conference, please notify me at least one day in
    advance.
  • I am confident that by working together, we can
make your childs first year a successful, happy
    and memorable one.
  • Sincerely,
  • Mrs. Adrienne Harless

Classroom Policies and Procedures
  • In order for our classroom to run smoothly
    and properly, the following procedure
  • must be followed.
  • Morning Drop Off - In order to give Pre-K a sense
of responsibility, please walk or drive your
child to the main entrance and I will retrieve
them from there. This will maintain a safe and
smooth transition for your child in the morning.
  • Afternoon Pick Up In the afternoon, I will take
all car riders to the front of the school near
the tree with the kindergarten classes. Please
make sure that I have checked off your childs
name before retrieving them. My primary concern
is to keep them safe. Bus riders, daycare and RRE
aftercare children will be walked by my
paraprofessional to their buses and/or daycare
vans. If you need to pick your child up between
the hours of 130-310, please let us know that
morning. We are napping, learning, and making end
of the day transitions at this time and want to
make sure the children go through these
transitions with as little interruption as
    possible.
  • Due to the safety of our little ones, I will not
be able to talk to you during morning drop off or
afternoon pick up. Please email me or write me a
note in their folder and I will check this and
    respond.
  • --RRE SCHOOL RULES FOR DISMISSAL OF CAR RIDERS AT
    THE END OF THE DAY--
  • 1. No cell phones while in the car line.
  • 2. Stay in your cars do not park to get your
child and walk across the crosswalk! Parents and
students crossing the school driveway present a
safety concern as drivers are not looking for
you.  Please help by following these directions.
  • 3. Please have your childs name and grade
placard visible in the front window.  If you need
additional forms, please see one of the PE
    coaches.
  • Please adhere to these rules as we want to keep
our student safe during the busiest time of our
    day!!  Safety first!
  • Changes in Transportation If you plan to change
your childs means of transportation, you must do
so by sending in a note. For safety purposes, we
are not allowed to change any information without
a parental note. Please be sure to write the
date(s) on the note. If no note is received, your
child will be sent home by his/her usual method
    of transportation.
  • Please notify me if your child is going to be
absent for any extended period of time. If your
child is out due to illness or other personal
reasons, please send in a note so that the
absence can be verified as excused. If your child
is out due to illness for five consecutive days,
    a doctors note is required.

6
Classroom Policies and Procedures cont.
  • Absences (Columbia County Board of Education
Policy Requirements) Please send a dated note the
next day your child returns to school as to why
your child was absent. Parent notes for medical
reasons are accepted up to five days per
semester. After five absences per semester due to
medical reasons, a note from a medical
professional is required. (State Policy) After
ten consecutive absences, the student will be
withdrawn from the State Pre-K Program.
  • Outdoor Recess The children will have outdoor
recess everyday unless it is raining, extremely
cold or extremely hot. Please keep this in mind
when helping your child select clothing for the
day. Also, we are fortunate to have a variety of
    playground equipment, including several pieces
for climbing. Please keep this in mind when
selecting shoes. Cowboy boots and little girls
dress shoes are not ideal if your child chooses
to play on this equipment. Also, these shoes can
tend to be slippery on days when the playground
is wet. Please remember that if your child is
well enough to be at school, he/she is well
enough to participate in outdoor recess, if
properly dressed. In fact, the germs that cause
colds thrive more readily in the heated indoor
air and it is beneficial to go outside and get
fresh air. However, on those occasions when you
feel it is best for your child to stay indoors,
please send a written note and I will make
arrangements for your child to do so.
  • Dress Code Columbia County BOE Dress Policy
applies. Please see handbook. For safety reasons,
no open toe or sling back sandals are permitted
    at school.
  • Change of Clothes Please send in a complete
change of clothing for your child in a labeled
bag. Please be sure to label all clothing. When
the weather changes, we will send the clothing
home to be changed for the appropriate weather.
The clothing will be kept at school. We will not
be allowed to change your child should they have
an accident in their clothing. We will give them
their change of clothes and they can change in
the restroom. If they are unable to do so on
their own, we will call you to come help them.
  • Labeling Personal Items Please label all
personal belongings. (book bags, lunch boxes,
coats, folders, change of clothes, blankets, mat
    covers, etc)
  • Special Events / Field Trips We will schedule
three field trips to local points of interest. We
will also have special guests and a few in school
    plays and/or assemblies.
  • Parent/Teacher Correspondence Folder Every
child will need a plastic folder. We will use
this folder to send home important information.
Notes, money, etc. will also be sent to school
via this folder. Please be sure that your child
    brings this folder daily.

Classroom Policies and Procedures cont.
  • Weekly Newsletter The Harless Herald will be
sent out every Friday. This newsletter will keep
you informed and up to date on current events in
our classroom. Please be sure to read it every
weekend. The newsletter will also be posted on
    our website _at_ http//www.ccboe.net/Teachers/harles
    s/aboutyourteachers.html under Harless Herald.
  • Money/Checks On occasion it will be necessary
for your child to bring money to school. It is
very important that all money sent to school is
in a sealed, properly labeled envelope. The
    envelope must have
  • Money
  • 1. Your childs first and last name.
  • 2. The amount of money in envelope.
  • 3. The purpose for the money (book money,
    party money, etc.).
  • 4. My name and classroom - Mrs. Harless /
    Pre-K
  • These simple steps will tremendously
reduce the likelihood of errors. Also, if the
envelope is left on the bus or dropped in the
hallway, this information will help the money to
    be returned to our classroom.
  • Checks Please be sure to use the memo
section on your check to specify what the check
has been written for. (Example lunch,
    afterschool, etc)
  • Birthdays When your child has a birthday,
please feel free to bring in a store bought treat
for the class. We have 20 students in our
classroom. Cupcakes or a cake may also be shared.
However, due to CCBOE policy these items must be
store bought and sealed in original containers.
If you are planning to send birthday invitations,
please be sure to include all 20 Pre-K students.
However, you may send invitations to all boys or
    all girls instead.
  • Book Orders Your child will be bringing home a
form to order books about once a month. If you
wish to order, simply fill out the form and send
the correct amount of money order or a check only
in a sealed envelope made payable to the book
club that we are placing the order through. These
orders are provided as a convenient way for
parents to buy quality books for their children
at an affordable price. As an added bonus, for
every dollar that is spent on books, we earn
points to purchase books for our classroom
reading area. You are never under any obligation
    to order.
  • P.A.C.T Time (beginning after Labor Day)
  • Parents are invited to come to school and
spend one hour per month with their child in our
classroom. If you are unable to spend a full
hour, you may want to come for 30 minutes two
times per month. Please let me know by sending an
email or by dropping me a note the day before you
would like to come so we can confirm a time.
Please remember to stop by the office to obtain a
visitors pass. We strongly recommend center
time. This way you are able to participate in
    activities, while observing your childs
    interaction with their peers.
