Where When She Was Born

• Marian was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania,
  February 27, 1897.

Her Childhood

• As a kid Marian was asked to join her church
  choir when she was only 6.
• After that Marian wanted to play the piano.

Why She Became Famous

• Marian became famous because her singing was
  really good.
• Marian sang all around the world. Every-body
  loved her, but she had to fight to sing in the
  U.S.A. because she was black.

• Marians first recital was in New York, 1924.
• She performed at the White House in 1936, and at
  the Lincoln Memorial in 1939.

• Marian married Orpheus King Fisher in 1943.
