He was born in 1864 ( some sources say 1861). He
was born a slave. He was adopted. He was Simpson
Colleges first black student. He even turned
down offers to work for Thomas Edison and
Henry Ford. He made peanut butter. He made
plastics. He was 79 when he died. In 1951 the
George Washington Carver National Monument. He
died in 1943. He was black.
