• Equipment

A fire resistant shirt and hardhat will be
provided and MUST be worn at all times. The
shirt is the outer layer and the sleeves must be
down. Wear boots or heaviest leather shoes you
have. Wear long, cotton jeans. Bring cotton or
leather gloves if you have them. Please do not
wear polyester, down, or fleece. They burn or
melt! Wool is safe.

Use tools safely. Shovels. Water backpacks. Fire
rakes and Swatters. Pulaskis. Torches.

Know your leader. Stay with your group. Do not
work alone. Make sure your leader has
communications.

• Assure line is prepared.
• Check weather.
• Assure crews are ready.
• Ignite narrow strip to expand line.
• Hold it.
• Ignite another strip to expand line.
• Hold it.
• Repeat above.
