George Orwell
  • His real name was Eric Blair.
  • George was born in 1903, in Bengal, India.
  • He was the son of a minor official in the Indian
    Civil Service.
  • He wrote several books

  • He died in London, in early 1950, from poor
    health and exhaustion

  • With the rise of Communism, the same oppression
    became evident in Russia.
  • Orwell experienced the horror of totalitarian
    rule firsthand, as a member of a radical
    Socialist-Trotskyite militia.

Brief Summary
  • Winston Smith works in the Records Department of
    the Ministry of Truth. His job is to revise the
    past as it appears in newspapers. He is
    dissatisfied living under the inflexible
    government of Oceania.
  • After Winston and Julias relationship becomes
    domestic, they rent an apartment so they can be
    alone.
  • Winston and Julia join an underground resistance
    organization seeking to empower the Proles.
