What is coral bleaching?
  • There is no actual bleaching involved what so
    ever.
  • A result of a breakdown of the symbiotic
    relationship between corals and unicellular algae
    (zooxanthellae)
  • Without these algae the coral can slowly starve
    to death.

  • Experiment
  • Check the salinity, temperature, and weight
  • Added 2mL if salt water to the test tube
  • Homogenize the sample for 15 seconds, setting the
    speed at 3
  • Took 1mL if the sample and added it to the plate
    for chlorophyll analysis
  • Put the sample under the microscope in order to
    determine the density by counting the cells.
