• Wicked was first established as a best selling
  novel by Gregory Maguire.
• The Musical was adapted from the book.
• It takes place before the time of the well known
  movie, The Wizard of Oz.
• The story is solely based around the life of the
  wicked witch of the west. In the book and
  musical she is named Elphaba which the author
  derived from the name L. Frank Baum, the writer
  of The Wizard of Oz.
• The book explains how the which was thrust into
  wickedness rather than her being born wicked.
• Are we born wicked or do we have wickedness
  thrust upon us? -Galinda

Opening Night

• Wicked the Musical opened at the Gershwin Theatre
  in New York City on Broadway on October 30, 2003.
• The show is now 3 years old.
• On March 23, 2006, Wicked reached its 1000th
  performance.
• Recently, the show broke the all-time record for
  a single weeks gross with 1,715,155. This
  occurred during the week of Thanksgiving.
• Also the musicals soundtrack just recently
  became declared Platinum. It has sold over 1
  million copies.
