distributing and processing precision tubing and
bar to the World markets. We pride ourselves in
delivering a quality product with the technical
expertise you demand. Our tubing inventory
includes carbon, alloy, and stainless steel in
raw or processed conditions including honed
tubing, suitable to hone, CPID and CPOD products.
Our bar inventory includes CPO, IHC, Nitro-tuff
and stainless steel chrome plated shafting.
Custom size or custom material inquiries are
welcome. We purchase and certify our material to
meet the stringent requirements of ASTM as well
as Commercial Fluid Power specifications. Our in
house capabilities include sawing, straightening,
gun-drilling, trepanning, boring, honing, skive
and roller burnishing, turning, grinding, welding
and fabricating Our Quality systems and
certifications are available for Customer review.

Nitro-tuff is an atmospheric furnace treatment
developed and patented in the early 1980's. It
combines a balance of the high surface hardness
and excellent corrosion resistance. Nitro-tuff
tubes and bars are approved and specified on
agricultural equipment, sprayers, snowplow
cylinders, truck lift gates, tractors, refuse
vehicles, military equipment, and many more
applications where surface protection is critical.

Nitro-tuff Tubes
Nitro-tuff The furnace sequence entails
nitrocarburizing the steel lengths at elevated
temperatures in an ammonia atmosphere with
exothermic gases followed by an oxidizing step.
This process generates a thin (0.001") uniform
and extremely hard (64 to 71 Rc) iron nitride
layer infused with a film of iron oxide.

Nitro-tuff Beneath the iron nitride layer is a
nitrogen-enriched hardened diffusion zone. The
diffusion zone functions as a light hardened case
with a hardness gradient ranging from the mid
50s Rc just below the iron nitride layer to
approximately 40 Rc at 0.015" depth. This
combination of a hard 64-71 HRC outer shell and a
40-50 HRC diffusion layer offers some dent
resistance.

Nitro-tuff Machining is similar to machining a
CPO rod. These rods should be given the same
attention to chucking and holding the work piece
as with any other precision and polished machined
component. Ceramics inserts are not needed.
Carbide is recommended for at least the diffusion
and top coat in total _at_ 0.016 in depth. After
this depth HSS can be used.

Nitro-tuff Tubes are case-hardened material.
Like any hardened steel, 90? corners and sharp
leading edges should be rounded. Oblique angles
(rounded corners) should be applied to the edges
of cross-drilled holes. Remove the hardened
surface layer prior to cross drilling.

Nitro-tuff Welding Nitro-tuff products in the
same fashion as chrome plated steel. As with
chrome plate, the laying of a weld bead directly
on the wear surface should be avoided as it can
create weld porosity. The nitrogen-enriched
surface should be removed at the weld site
(machine, chamfer or grind) so as to create a
groove for the weld.

products are ideally suited for friction/inertia
welding. Like chrome, a heat affected zone 1/8
to 1/4 immediately adjacent to the weld site can
reduce both hardness and corrosion resistance.
This area is not considered a wear site and is
usually painted along with the clevis or rod
end..

Nitro-tuff Nitro-tuff should not be used in
environments over 500 Degrees Fahrenheit. Nitro-tu
ff are not resistant to sulfuric or hydrochloric
acids (commonly used to etch steel). Nitro-tuff
products are not suitable for field repairs.

bar Nitro-tuff products are not suitable for
bending. A Nitro-tuff bar or an IHC bar will
break in half when subjected to an extreme side
load. IHC and Nitro-tuff bars have similar
bending attributes.
