Name Selection Guidelines
  • Must reflect UHD today and its perceived future.
  • Must be unique in Texas and in the United States.
  • Must be distinctive. This means that is cannot
    be too similar to an existing institutions name
  • Must not include persons name or a family name.
  • Must not include University of Houston, or be
    so similar to the University of Houston that it
    would cause confusion.
  • Must support the mission, focus and purpose of
    the institution.

Name Selection Guidelines
  • Must have an available internet domain.
  • Must have an acronym or preferred abbreviation
    that is distinct and appropriate.
  • Must be short, easy to use and easily
    abbreviated.
  • Must reflect the institutions image as a
    successful, high quality, inclusive, diverse,
    comprehensive state university.
  • May link to the regions geography, history or
    location.
  • Should be inspiring and forward-thinking, but not
    faddish.
