Title: Vector Addition

1
Vector Addition
  • The graphical technique

2
Vector Description
  • A vector is a quantity that requires both
    magnitude and direction
  • Magnitude is the size (the number) with units.
  • Direction is the direction the vector is pointing
based on the assigned coordinate system.

3
Vector Description
  • The magnitude answers the question How big?
  • The direction answers the question Which way?
  • Velocity
  • Acceleration
  • I.Q.

Mass Displacement Time
4
Vector Description
  • A 45 m N

5
Vector Description
  • B 4.3 m W23oS

6
Do They Really?
7
Add Vectors
  • Add the same type of vectors only!
  • Add vectors head to tail.
  • The result is the vector drawn from the tail of
the first to the head of the last vector.

8
I am looking for ARRRRRR
9
Graphical Addition
  • Draw each vector to scale, Magnitude and
    Direction.
  • Begin with the first.
  • At the head of the first place the tail of the
second (head to tail method) and so on.
  • Vectors can be added in any order.
