Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA)
  • The SEA is required to monitor the quality and
    effectiveness of the services offered by approved
    Supplemental Educational Services (SES)
    providers.
  • ESEA, Section 1116(e)(4)(D) 34 C.F.R.
    200.47(c).

Purpose of Monitoring
  • Address requirements of SES providers as
    stipulated in ESEA
  • Verify compliance with narratives and assurances
    in the SES providers approved application

Prior to the Visit
  • Communication to the LEA
  • Communication to the SES provider

Communication to the LEA
  • At least five (5) days prior to the on-site
    monitoring visit, a Title I Consultant will
  • Notify the LEA Federal Programs director and/or
    the LEAs SES coordinator by e-mail of the
    upcoming visit with specific information related
    to location, date, and time.
  • Request an LEA observer to accompany the SES
    monitor (not required).

Communication to the SES Provider
  • Prior to the 2009-10 monitoring visits, all
    approved providers will receive an email with the
    finalized SEA monitoring documents attached.
  • At least five (5) business days prior to an
    announced monitoring visit, primary provider
    contact will receive an e-mail notification of
    the visit. NOTE The primary provider contact
    will be the person indicated as such in the
    approved SES application.
