INVITATION
Abstract In recent years, a growing
number of countries are looking at new nuclear
power generation to address global climate change
and a possible peak in global oil extraction.
With many petroleum experts and respected energy
observers raising concerns associated with such a
peak - a concept known as Hubberts Peak -
consideration must be given to the rather long
lead times needed for the successful
implementation of petroleum alternatives. We will
discuss how nuclear power can deliver a
successful mitigation strategy for Hubberts Peak
and how fundamental questions pertaining to the
current global state of fuel, skills and
industrial capacity to manufacture new reactors
can be addressed in a systematic, transparent,
and technically sound manner. The discussion
will examine best lessons learned from national
nuclear energy policies.
