Multichannel Seismic Analysis of Gas Hydrates and
Related Geological Structures in the Northwestern
Gulf of Mexico
William W. Sager, Department of Oceanography,
Texas AM University
The geology of the sedimentary wedge on the
Northwestern Gulf of Mexico continental margins
is a complex interplay of sedimentation,
deformation by moving salt, mass wasting of
sediments. These factors control the location of
gas and gas hydrate deposits. Our project seeks
to map the salt, faults, slumps and other
geologic features and to learn how these factors
affect gas hydrate accumulation and the location
of fluid expulsion features.
