• (critical that students arrive at school on

• 919 -1004 Science (lab on Wednesday)
• 1006 -1049 SPECIALS (weekly) PE, Art, Music,
  Technology
• 1050 -1105 Snack/Recess/Bathroom Break
• 1110 -1223 Reading / Spelling (flexible
  grouping)
• 1225 - 110 Lunch / Recess
• 112 - 157 Language Arts (Shurley Grammar /
  Step Up to Writing)
• 159 - 244 History
• 245 - 330 Core Stories, Virtues, Poetry,
  Penmanship 330 335 Homeroom (check planner,
  load backpacks, etc.)
• Healthy snack please. Also please ensure child
  knows what their snack is, separate from lunch!

Water bottles EVERY DAY They can stay all week,
return home on Friday for cleaning! Sweater/Sweats
hirt Every Day Colorado weather is anything but
predictable. Lets always be prepared. NAMES on
all personal items. clothing, water bottles,
gloves, etc. Listening skills are imperative for
success.

Friday Folder

• Yellow Folder- should come home every Friday
• Completed and graded assignments
• Important notes from office, teachers, after
  school programs, etc.
• Please return folder empty on Monday
• Third Grade News will be posted Friday evening on
  the website http//www.americanacademyk8.org/
• Check your childs Homeroom Page, and Math
  teacher/Reading teachers page for items specific
  to their homeroom or reading or math class.
• Use Homework Folder for correspondence as it is
  checked daily

Homework Folder / Planner

• Planners come home every day (including Friday)
• Please review the planner and initial each
  evening.
• Check for behavior notification (colored dot) and
  discuss as appropriate.
• Math, Writing, Reading, Spelling, Science, or
  History homework, if any, will be noted in
  Planner and the assignment will be in their red
  homework folder.
• Red Homework Folder will come home only if your
  child has homework.
• Please review and discuss homework with your
  child, sign or initial, and return to the folder
• Homework is either designed to support and extend
  classroom learning, or is necessary because a
  student did not complete the assignment in the
  time allotted in class.
• Please return Planner and Homework Folder daily

Birthdays

• Summer Birthdays can be celebrated on half
  birthdays (ex. July 5th celebrates on January
  5th)
• Welcome to send in treats (individual)
• Treats will be passed out to be enjoyed at a
  convenient time, usually in the afternoon
• (avoid peanuts, peanut oil, melon, broccoli,
  brussel sprouts, cooked spinach and fish
  products)
• Allergies? Please e-mail me with any known
  allergies.

• Supplemental exercises to reinforce skills
• Writing skills will be emphasized across the
  curriculum.
• Core Knowledge Stories, Poems, Sayings and
  Phrases
• Reading Log (20 minutes/day expectation)

Saxon Math

• Will move quickly through review material
• FOCUS is on
• Developing Computation Skills
• Problem Solving Skills, Concepts, ability to
  Explain Math
• Homework
• Parents assist with reading/explaining
  instructions as necessary
• Check homework and assist child as necessary in
  correcting errors
• Please initial or sign homework
• Points earned for homework signed and turned in
  on time
• 10 points per day on time (signed/initialed)
• Assessments Every 5 lessons (100 pts.)
• Weighting on Scores Assessments 80 /
  Homework20
• Fact Assessment scores are multiplied at .5 so as
  to have less of a negative impact on overall math
  scoreshowever, students who struggle with fact
  speed will be affected when trying to learn new
  math concepts.

• Grades and schedules will be visible on Parent
  Portal beginning Monday, October 5.   This
  information is now also on the Homepage and on
  the Parent Portal whenever a parent signs on. 
• Everyone who requested access to Parent Portal at
  the time of enrollment or registration (this is
  mainly NEW families) will receive their login
  information by October 9.
