10
COURAGE
  • Courage is more than facing the physical dangers
    of battle.
  • It is doing what is right and fair with a sense
    of duty and compassion.
  • It is built on an ethos of serving the nation and
    service before self.

11
INITIATIVE
  • Initiative is the ability to achieve the mission
    by exploiting opportunity.

ARMY ETHOS
  • The ethos of the Army is that of the soldier
    serving the nation
  • Mentally and physically tough, and with the
    courage to win.
  • We fight as part of a team and are inspired by
the ANZAC tradition of fairness and loyalty to
    mates.
  • We are respected for our professionalism,
integrity, esprit de corps and initiative.

14
The heart and soul of the Regiment is its
soldiers.. MAJ-GEN Warren Glenny (Retd) - as
2IC of 1st/15th RNSWL in the 1960s - once
said. "A regiment is not solely the soldiers who
presently comprise its strength. It is an entity
stretching back in time to its beginnings. It is
ALL the soldiers who have served in its ranks,
with their traditions and achievements. The
serving unit, like the tip of an iceberg, may be
the only part you see, but underneath, supporting
it, there is a great deal more.
15
One Last Thing
  • It is the soldier, not the reporter,
  • Who has given us the freedom of the press.
  • It is the soldier, not the poet,
  • Who has given us freedom of speech.
  • It is the soldier, not the student organiser,
  • Who has given us the freedom to demonstrate.
  • It is the soldier
  • Who salutes the flag,
  • Who serves beneath the flag,
  • And whose coffin is draped by the flag
  • Who allows the protester to burn the flag.
