Title: Editing a SharePoint Site with FrontPage

1
Editing a SharePoint Site with FrontPage
  • The last piece of the puzzle

2
SharePoint and FrontPage
  • General things to know
  • FrontPage has been designed to work natively with
    SharePoint
  • New version of FrontPage is called SharePoint
    Designer
  • SharePoint is .aspx pages generated by Microsoft
    SQL servers
  • WHAT????!!!!!
  • It is a fancy website but it means it has html
    that can be edited

3
What You Can Do in FP only
  • Move and resize WebParts easily
  • Add new WebPart zones
  • AGAIN WHAT???!!!
  • You can add new areas for the WebParts in your
    site
  • Redesign the layout of your page
  • Add custom colours and images to your site
  • Add new pages of your own design with your own
    WebPart zones
  • Add lots of customs touches if you want to take
    the time

4
What else can you do?
  • Back up and restore your entire site
  • Back up WebParts including content with some
    WebParts
  • Modify the tables
  • SP generated tables are complex. Sometimes
    better to create your own
  • Upload and create multiple files and folders
  • Move, delete and rename them too
  • Pull data from any where in the SP portal that
you and your users have rights to

5
What cant you do?
  • You cant create new instances of WebParts
  • YET AGAIN WHAT???!!!
  • You cant create new lists or document libraries
  • Only in web interface
  • You cant do things you dont have rights to
  • FP itself will not let you

6
What else?
  • You cannot remove the template that has been
    applied
  • Every SP site has a template that defines it.
    E.g., team site
  • Important for things like back ups
  • You cannot restore a site or WebPart to a site
    with a different template
  • Little what?
  • Templates are unique and sites/WebParts have that
    info in them
  • You cannot restore a site and keep the users

7
So how do we do things?
  • First Open a site.
  • Click on the blue button or File? Edit in
    FrontPage
  • Lets Try it!!
