2 History
- The first revision of the Client Card Information
System was launched in 1997 - New web-based user interface was introduced in
2007 - Today this system is used in one of the biggest
supermarket chains of Estonia
3 Overview
- System is used for multi-store supermarket chain
- Cards can be issued on site (less than 5 minutes
waiting) as well as printed centrally - It supports variable territories for address
classification (eg. Estonia and Latvia) - Different currencies (eg. Euro, Estonian kroon,
Latvian lat)
4 Information system
- The information system holds the following
data - Clients
- Client cards
- Credit cards
- Client purchases
- Variable discounts (eg. birthday, gold client)
- Bonus points
5Client data
- The following data is handled for
- clients
- Personal data (name, address, contact info)
- Family members (can be other clients)
- Preferred language
- Data like occupation, marital status for
personalized offers
6 Card data
- Unique number
- Different card types (eg. gold client, young
client) - Validity dates
- Discount group
- Issuing details (when, where, by whom was issued)
7 Credit cards
- Act as client cards and bank credit cards
simultaneously - Credit cards are issued in cooperation with the
bank - Strong security requirements
- Automatic data exchange with bank
8 Purchases
- Client card system has link with stores cashier
system - Every night data is exchanged and purchase data
are imported into client card system database - Purchases are used for calculating bonus points
9 Discounts and bonuses
- Birthday discounts are automatically calculated
using clients personal data - It is possible to manually add discount for
single client - Bonuspoints are calculated using purchase data
- Automatic e-mails for clients about birthday
discount
10 Self service
- Client Card IS has interface for self service
website - client can log on and see his/her personal data
and current discounts and bonus points. - Client can update his contact data (address,
e-mail, phone)
11Administration
- Main functions
- Administrating of users and their rights
- Changing the values and contents of the
classificators. - Tuning systems parameters as needed.
12 Important features
- Security Users, groups, security policies
- Every user is allowed to perform the activities
that have been issued to him. A system
administrator can add or remove permissions to
the users as well as create new users and
invalidate old users. - Configurability
- A variety of parameters can be changed by the
administrator on the fly and no intervention by
the developer is needed. - Scalability
- Supermarket chain can add new stores, new
currencies, new territories no actions are
required from the developer.
13Technical architecture
- The information system has been developed on the
Oracle database platform - Server side software developed in Java
- Workplace computers use an ordinary web browser
to access the system
