OneSAF-EW IRDGeneral Overview
  • Real-time EW in a simulated complex urban
    environment
  • High-fidelity RF propagation and geolocation in
    urban areas
  • Integrated with OneSAF
  • Targets analysis, training, and operational
purposes in DoD and intelligence agencies
  • Leverages OneSAF, ERC, and EMPIRE interface and
    models
  • Targets commodity HPC, GPU, and multi-core
    hardware
  • IRD team has expertise in OneSAF, high-fidelity
urban RF propagation models, and HPC
  • IRD team is seeking input from OneSAF user
    community

3
OneSAF-EW IRDObjectives
  • Objectives
  • Develop high-fidelity urban indoor and outdoor RF
    propagation models
  • Develop algorithms for geolocation of RF
transmitters in indoor and outdoor urban areas
  • Provide solution for multiple domains such as
    training, analysis, experimentation, and
    operational purposes
  • Leverage existing software and commodity HPC
    technologies
  • Support real-time (11) simulation execution
  • Serve a broad area of users needing varying RF
    propagation model fidelity
  • Develop architectural approach for providing
    federation-wide EM environment simulation
  • Opportunities for application of OneSAF-EW
    capabilities
  • Accurate RF propagation modeling for
    communications, sensors, jammers
  • Accurate impact of threat electronic attack such
    as RF jamming
  • RF propagation accuracy required for remote
    control of unmanned vehicles
  • RF propagation accuracy required for
    representation of radar operation
  • RF propagation accuracy required for COE and
    alternative means of communication
  • Accuracy necessary for RF jamming in
    Counter-Remote Control IED (C-RCIED)
  • Accuracy for determining optimal RF sensor
    placement
  • Simulation and operational RF geolocation
    technologies
  • Others

4
OneSAF-EW IRDApproach
  • Approach
  • TIREM (Alion Science and Technology) integration
    with OneSAF (already completed)
  • EMPIRE integration with OneSAF
  • Environmental Runtime Component (ERC) queries on
    HPC
  • Urban RF propagation on HPC with OneSAF
  • Urban RF geolocation on HPC with OneSAF

5
OneSAF-EW IRDOneSAF and EMPIRE
  • Electromagnetic Propagation Integrated Resource
    Environment (EMPIRE)
  • EMPIRE is a joint DoD program that provides a
GOTS software solution for uniform interface to
    Radio Frequency (RF) propagation models
  • EMPIRE supports thirteen standard RF propagation
models and two suites of ultra-high fidelity
models models support frequencies in the range
    100 kHz to 300 GHz
  • Primary sponsors for EMPIRE are the Naval
Intelligence Warfare Activity (NIWA), the Naval
Research Laboratory (NRL), and the Air Force
    Intelligence Warfare Activity (AFIWC)
  • Benefits
  • Provides use of multiple standard and
high-fidelity model suites in OneSAF, broad
    applicability to OneSAF users
  • Provides support for commercial high-fidelity
    urban RF propagation models
  • Integration approach
  • Develop OneSAF-EW system component as interface
    to EMPIRE
  • EMPIRE source will not be integrated into OneSAF
  • Develop ERC (Environmental Runtime Component)
terrain queries to retrieve ground and building
data for use by EMPIRE models

6
OneSAF-EW IRDOneSAF User Input
  • The OneSAF-EW IRD team is seeking input from the
    OneSAF user community
  • Seeking feedback on applicability of the IRD to
user requirements and suggestions for additional
areas of pursuit to address related customer
    requirements
