Challenges of the Battlespace
  • CTF 152 area of responsibility (AOR) is one of
    the most globally significant
  • 80 of the worlds energy reserves lie within the
    region
  • Nearly one thousand oil platforms, refineries,
    and terminals geographically dispersed throughout
    the Arabian Gulf
  • Constrained battlespace
  • Limited maneuver room
  • Strait of Hormuz is single chokepoint for entry
    and exit
  • Small window of opportunity in defeating a no- or
    short-notice attack
  • Resource limited
  • Nominally 1-2 warships in direct support of CTF
    152 each day
  • By comparison, CTF 151 (counter-piracy) averages
    10 warships in direct support daily
