Title: The Fractured Football Fairy Tale

1
The Fractured Football Fairy Tale
  • By Ms. Mooty

2
Once upon a time..
  • There was a new football team that just joined
the league. This football team understood the
basics of how to play football, the rules, etc.
  • This football team desperately wanted to win the
    league championship.
  • This football team was called the Rats.

3
The Rats
  • The Rats were bound and determined to win the
league championship because they really wanted
the gold and silver trophy to display in their
    locker room.
  • They also wanted to throw a party in their honor
after their winning season and success.

4
Dum-de-dum-dum!!
  • The Rats really wanted the success and the party
and the trophy. So they hired an expert on
football named Cadillac Jack. CJ had been a star
football player in high school and in college.
Once he had been running for a long touchdown.
After about 60 yards he tackled himself! How
resourceful is he to be able to play both offense
    and defense!!

5
According to CJ
  • According to Cadillac Jack, the team would have
to put in many long hours of drills and running,
weightlifting and using tackle dummies. The Rats
were advised they would have work at least two
hours per day, twice a day. The Rats were told to
put many of their other fun activities on hold
until they were ready to compete.

6
The first day
  • The Rats did pretty well on day 1. They were
pumped and they were dedicated. They were excited
and they could see the trophy, taste the
celebratory pizza and soda. They could see their
names in lights and envision college recruiters
coming to their school to snag every one of them
as star players for their teams.

7
Second day..
  • On the second day the Rats were not quite so
excited. They were tired from the day before. Of
course two-a-days are very hot and hard to
    endure.
  • Also the Rats were all invited to a party on
Saturday and it just so happened the coach had
called a practice on that day!

8
Dum-de-dum dum!! Dum!!
  • On Saturday most of the Rats were really tired
from the days of long and hot practice. They all
unanimously decided to attend the party on
Saturday. After all, they had worked hard for at
least one day. AND they showed up the other days.
    That should count for something!!

9
Par-Tay..
  • The Rats partied all Saturday afternoon. They had
chips and dip and salsa and MMs and soda. Then
they had ice cream floats and brownies with fudge
icing. They played a few outside games like Pin
the Tail on the Swollen Belly or Spin the Barf
Bag. All in all, most felt terrible and wanted
to go home. Alka Seltzer was flying off the
shelves at the local Piggy Wiggly.

10
Come Monday..
  • The Rats showed up for practice on Monday with a
very angry coach. Thank goodness Cadillac Jack
had quit out of frustration and decided to go
back to car sales. The Rats had their first game
on Friday and knew they were not prepared.

11
Its okay boys
  • The Rats could not run drills. They could not
tackle. They were slow. They didnt know their
plays. They knew they had not prepared as CJ had
wanted but they also knew he was very tough and
sometimes he just expected way too much.

12
Idea!!
  • On Friday night the Rats went out to play their
first game against the Wildcats. On the very
first down the Rats jumped up into the refs face
and yelled Give us a break! We ate too much last
weekend. We should get another chance. What do
    you think the ref did?

13
Second down..
  • On the second down the Rats were SURE it was due
to the fact that it had been so hot lately, which
was NOT their fault. After whistles blew, the
Rats jumped up and said NO FAIR, its too hot to
play. We should get a second chance. What do you
    think the ref did?

14
Third Down..
  • On the third down, the Rats were furious with
these obviously biased and unfair refs that would
not listen to their stories! They decided
something drastic would have to happen or their
    championship would be jeopardized.

15
What down is it?
  • On the next play the Rats were determined to make
it through the crowd of Wildcats that were in
their way. They called a play that would surely
    ensure their desired touchdown.

16
Well???
  • The Rats broke free of all enemies and when they
were just ONE yard short of a touchdown they were
    tackled!!
  • They immediately jumped up and tried to reason
with the ref. ONE YARD should not keep the team
    from scoring a touchdown.!!

17
One yard, people!!
  • They argued that they were so close. Probably the
running back had slipped. Surely they would go
ahead and count the touchdown!! It was such a
beautiful play. They were now showing effort.
    Shouldnt that count for something?
  • What happened?

18
Football and Fabulous Endings
  • If this were a movie, maybe something fabulous
would happen to bail the Rats out of their bad
    luck.

19
Your side..
  • Do you think the Rats had bad luck?
  • Were the Rats treated unfairly?
  • Was there something the Rats could have done to
    make the championship happen?
  • Will the Rats always win games?
  • What will they do if they dont win games?

20
The facts..
  • Of course you may experience bad luck from time
    to time.
  • Repeated failures usually mean you are not
    preparing, planning or managing something.
  • Whining and asking for special treatment is not
    being a winner.
  • Winners work hard, sacrifice and learn from
    mistakes.
  • Winners enjoy their prizes because they earned
    it!!
