Title: EDS

1
EDS
  • Egg Drop Syndrome
  • Recombinant Vaccine

2
Introduction
  • EDS is an Infectious viral disease of laying
    hens.
  • EDS cause reduction in egg production and
production of Thin-Shell or Shell-less eggs.
  • First observed in chickens in 1976 in Holland
  • The disease cause a considerable Economic losses.

3
EDS virus structural characteristics
  • Adenoviruses are Double-stranded DNA
    non-enveloped icosahedral particles.
  • A penton fiber projects from each apex.

4
Identify a subunit to be used as a vaccine
5
Efficiency of recombinant protein in HI and SN
tests

6
Advantages of subunit vaccines
  • A well defined, stable, clean antigens.
  • The immune response is highly specific, it is
producing protective Ab only and not against
irrelevant antigens. (guided missile attack ver.
    carpet bombing)
  • The immune response can be precisely examined.
  • Are easily produced by recombinant DNA technology.

7
Advantages of subunit vaccines
  • The vaccine is highly accurate.
  • The vaccine is produced by means of biotechnology
(not in live poultry, eggs or tissue) and
therefore it is free from animal tissue residues.
  • High repeatability- every vaccine batch contain
exactly the same ingredients as the previous and
    future batches.
  • No problem from incomplete inactivation of the
    pathogen.
