  • MCA - Current
  •
  • The MCA is a multi-valued selection scheme that
combines academic factors with other objective
values to comprehensively review all of our
    applicants for selection.
  • Applicants compete for admission against other
applicants applying to the same major.

4
  • Decisions are based on the available spaces in
each major, which vary from quarter to quarter
    within each pool.
  • In addition to the MCA score, the system also
determines if the applicant meets CSU eligibility
    requirements.

5
  • Freshman candidates are evaluated and screened
for admission in four categories, including
  • Academic performance (GPA)
  • Program of study in secondary school/college as
it applies to the subject categories designated
    as college-preparatory coursework (see chart
    below)
  • Standardized test scores and
  • Consideration given for hours worked and/or
    participation in extra-curricular activities.

  • Minimum Academic Score
  •
  • Each college establishes the minimum academic
score that an applicant must meet in order to be
considered for admission within any given pool.
  • This score must meet or exceed CSU eligibility.
  • It is recommended that the minimum academic score
be based upon the probability of the student
earning grades of C or better in his/her
    studies at Cal Poly.
  • Readings
  •
  • Cal Poly utilizes two readings for regular
    decision freshman selection.
  • The first reading scores and selects applicants
by major, based on the total score of the
    criteria listed above.
  • The second reading includes all criteria listed
above, plus bonus points, as applicable, based on
    the criteria listed below.
  • Bonus points are applicable only for those who
meet the minimum academic score in the first
    reading.
