Camouflage
  • A color or shape that helps an animal blend in

  • Hide animals from enemies.
  • Help animals catch food.

  • You will be doing an activity.
  • You will need to use what you know about
    camouflage and mimicry.

Group Roles
  • Each person will have a role in the group.
  • The person with the first birthday starting with
    January will be the Organizer.
  • The person with the second birthday will be the
    Investigator.
  • The person with the third birthday will be the
    Manager.
  • The person with the fourth birthday will be the
    Recorder.
  • If you have five people in your group. The
    person with the fifth birthday will be the Timer.

Organizer's Job
  • The organizer will go to the supply table and
    collect the supplies for the group.
  • Supplies
  • -15 red toothpicks
  • -15 green toothpicks
  • -15 blue toothpicks
  • -15 yellow toothpicks
  • -1 square green cloth
  • -1 timer
  • -1 worksheet for one group

Let's Pretend
  • The green cloth is grass
  • The toothpicks are insects
  • The manager is the bird looking for insects

Recorder's Job
  • Which color toothpick will be the hardest to
    find. Explain your answer.
  • The recorder will need to write down the answer
    on your groups worksheet.

Investigator's Job
  • Place the cloth on the floor.
  • Scatter the toothpicks on top of the green cloth.

Manager's Job
  • Look for the insects. You must collect as many
    toothpicks as you can in 15 seconds. Pick up the
    toothpicks one at a time.
  • The timer will use the timer/clock to count 15
    seconds. The timer will tell the Manager when to
    stop.
  • If you do not have a timer in your group because
    you only have four people than the Investigator
    will be the timer.

  • Count how many toothpicks of each color were
    picked up.
  • Record your data on the chart on the worksheet.
