Cleopatra VII
BY MEHAK

QUEEN OF KINGS

Cleopatras Life
  • Cleopatra was the last queen of Egypt. She was
born in Alexandria in 69 B.C. and died in 30 B.C.
She was a very strong and determined woman for
her time. Even though she was the last queen of
Egypt she wasnt Egyptian. She was actually
Macedonian. Her father Ptolemy XII treated his
subjects badly and eventually he was overthrow by
his people. He found no help from the Greeks so
he went to Rome. Then, after her father was
overthrown, Bernice, older sister to Cleopatra,
    ruled from 58 B.C55 B.C. While ruling
Cleopatras other sister Cleopatra Tryphaena VI
died mysteriously. In time Ptolemy XII came back
and ordered execution of Bernice IV leaving her
with only two brothers Ptolemy XIII and Ptolemy
XIV and one younger sister Arsinoe IV. After her
father died in 51 B.C. she married her brother
Ptolemy XIII to keep the royal blood in the
family. At age 18 she became queen and ruled
without her brother until 48 B.C. when Ptolemys
advisors stripped her from her power and banished
    her to Syria.

Cleopatras Loves
  • Cleopatra had two loves in her lifetime. One
of them was Julius Caesar and the other was Marc
Antony. After Julius Caesar died she fell in love
with Marc Antony. There is also a play written
about them by Shakespeare called Cleopatra and
    Antony.

Julius Caesar
  • Julius Caesar was Cleopatras first love. They
fell in love despite the age difference between
them. After her brother died by drowning in the
river, they got married partially because of
their love and partially of what they would gain.
Cleopatra married him because she would obtain a
better army and Caesar married her because he
wanted her wealth. They had a son, Ptolemy XV,
also called Caesarion. On the Ides of March of 44
BC, Caesar came to an end. The senators he most
trusted assassinated Caesar. They murdered him
because they thought Caesar was making plans to
have himself declared king. After Caesar's
murder, Cleopatra fled Rome because she knew none
of the Romans wanted her to be ruler, and
    returned home to Alexandria.

5
Marc Antony
  • The other person she loved was Marc Antony. She
met him after Caesars Death a few years later.
They got married and had three children Cleopatra
    Selene, Alexander Helios and Ptolemy
    Philadelphus. Marc Antony divorced Octavians
sister Octavia so Octavian declared war on
Cleopatra. In 31 B.C. they fought a critical
battle at sea. Even though Marc Antony wanted to
battle on land Cleopatra insisted it would be
better on sea. Their fleet was destroyed. After
several months, Octavian accompanied by his army,
went to Alexandria. Fearing Egypt would be
occupied, Cleopatra sent Caesarion to India and
while going there he was killed. Then Octavian
spread rumors that Cleopatra was killed. Thinking
that Cleopatra died Antony killed himself. His
friends brought him to Cleopatra where he died
peacefully. Cleopatra then died shortly after.

Cleopatras Death
  • Cleopatras death is a mystery to all. Some
believe that she died from a being bitten by a
poisonous snake inside the basket of figs that
were brought to her by a strange man. It is also
believed that Cleopatra poisoned herself on
purpose. Before she died Cleopatra wrote a letter
to Octavian to be buried in the same tomb as
Antony. Alarmed, Octavian sent his men to check
on her. When they got there they found she was
already dead. They put her in the same tomb as
Antony as it was her last request. After
Cleopatras death only one of her children
survived. Caesarion, the oldest and who was son
of the Julius Caesar posed a threat to Octavian
so he was killed after Cleopatra died. Alexander
Helios, Ptolemy Philadelphus and Cleopatra Selene
were sent to Italy to Octavia. After they were
sent to Octavia, the boys disappeared
mysteriously. Cleopatra Selene, the only one who
survived, married King Juba II of Mauritania and
had two children, Ptolemy XVI and Drusilla.
