Adjustable Intraocular Lens (IOL) for
Macro-Degenerated Human Eyes

• An adjustable IOL would provide surgeons with
• a method of correcting inadvertent or
  unavoidable refractive errors after surgery
• the ability to non-surgically adjust an implant
  over time to fulfill a patients     changing
  visual needs
• a reliable alternative to lens exchange or
  piggyback implants

UMR and the Adjustable Intra-Ocular Lens Project
Researchers at UMR, in collaboration with Harry
C. Eggleston, M.D. (Eagle EyeCare) and a local
lens manufacturer (Eyes of the World), are
developing an IOL that can be adjusted externally
from the human eye.

•  The SmCo5 ring will allow the lens to be
  adjusted externally using a magnetic field
       to induce spin in the threaded inner lens.
•  This changes the focal length of the IOL without
  additional surgical procedures.
