    arrival to the Ridgeview Motel.
  • That night, Wednesday, we dine at the Ridge Pub
and get acquainted with the group.

A Happy Wetkayak tour group
4
Boarding the MV Uchuck III
  • A converted minesweeper the Uchuck travels our
inlets delivering precious cargo to the logging
and fishing camps throughout Nootka Sound and
    Kyoquot Sound.
  • Our first day is spent onboard getting our
sealegs under us and enjoying the scenic voyage
first seen by Captain Cook and the infamous
    Lieutenant Bligh.
  • Everyones first lesson will be how to load and
balance their kayaks when fully packed for 9
days!! Not to worry as this really makes for a
    stable kayak on the water.
  • Here we are on the dock before the boats are
    loaded onto the Uchuck.

5
On the Uchuck
  • Great food , scenery, and company!
  • September weather

Steve testing the Uchuck steerage out? Tour the
pilot house and engine room!
6
Arrival at our departure point
  • Unloading for the first time is quite a thrill as
you are suspended above the water on a pallet
    with all eyes on you!

7
Our first camp
  • Only 100 metres to our first camp where we will
get acquainted with our gear that afternoon and
    evening.
  • With a full load we all chip in to lend a hand
carrying boats up above the tide line.

8
Base Camp on the west coast
Friday morning we leave our Island camp and
paddle 4 hours to arrive at our base camp. From
this camp we launch day trips all week long.
9
Daily trips are planned or stay at camp and relax.
10
Some Wildlife perhaps
11
Furry critters too.
12
Too much to see
  • This guy was one of three BIG males and we gave
them a wide berth after realizing this thought.
  • Amazing feeling meeting them on the water.
  • Yes, its time to go before he wants to say Hi!

13
Schedule Details
  • We will have a schedule of sights that we hope to
see but are really held accountable by the
    weather.
  • We will review weather reports and decide the
night before where we are off to in the morning.
Flexibility based on local knowledge is what
    makes for a great trip.
  • We will paddle daily for up to 5 hours max. and
will only move base camp to meet the Uchuck .
  • Friday morning the Uchuck picks us up and after a
day of dropping supplies at various camps we
arrive back in Gold River for supper.
  • The Hotel rooms are once again included and I
will have the Ridge pub booked for us once we are
cleaned up and changed to city clothes.
  • Flights departing Campbell River must be made for
departure Saturday afternoon at the earliest and
preferably Sunday!! If you have your own vehicle
you can get to the airport on your own schedule
    outside of these times.
  • There will be two times throughout the week when
we will schedule a wet class, rolling rescues etc
    for those that wish.
  • Should the surf be up on the front of the beach
we can enjoy entry level waves flowing into the
    sandy beach below our tents!

14
Things to see and do before and after the trip.
  • Gold River, fish, bike, hike, cave, golf, it has
    it all!
  • Campbell River bigger town but still small and
personal, walk the waterway, test the night life
    or enjoy world class restaurants.

15

transportation to and from Gold River from the

be synthetic and compact good to minus 10 is more
    than warm enough

Trip Details
  • All clients will fill out a medical
questionnaire, this is mandatory and for your own
    safety.
  • When paid in full All clients will be given a
preferred list of gear to bring and what not to
bring. The list needs to be observed as we have
limited space on board the kayaks and given the
amount of food we bring in to camp I would rather
have a good steak dinner than a heavy pair of
hiking boots that you may wear once.
  • Dates and times will be decided by the individual
store you are dealing with at the time of
    booking.
  • Frontenac Oufitters Paddlesports Centre a ½
north of Kingston, Ontario has booked the 15th of
September to the 23rd of September. Larry and
Christine Showler (the owners) will be onboard
helping as assistant guides for the trip.
