Overview
  • Construction is the process of producing
    structures. The types of structures that are
    produced vary from shopping malls, hospitals,
    stadiums, schools, highways, dams, bridges and
    houses. The construction industry is the process
    in which we produce these structures.
  • The area of construction that we will be
    focusing on deals with shelter. Many things fall
    under this category and this is one of the
    earliest forms of construction. From the ancient
    city of Pompeii to the teepees of the Sioux
    Indians people have constructed shelters.

  • Residential
  • Houses, apartments, condominiums
  • Commercial
  • Shopping malls, car dealerships, stores
  • Industrial
  • Factories, treatment plants, hangers
  • Public
  • Town halls, schools, hospitals
  • Private
  • Mosques, synagogues, churches

  • 1. Preparing to build.
  • Select design, consider location and use.
  • Develop plans, including specifications.
  • Financing, securing money for land, materials,
    and labor.
  • Locate and select building site.
  • Hire a contractor.
  • Obtain proper permits.
