Motivation

• Understand ITB onset conditions
• - Ohmic H-mode ITB is most unambiguous
  ITB condition on C-Mod, no RF required
• - potentially most interesting laboratory
• to study ITB onset and development
• Extended diagnostic set since 2002
• - enhances value of subsequent analysis with
• microstability codes GS2 and GYRO

Plan of Experiment/Analysis

• Extend miniproposal 299 (Fiore), on Ohmic H-mode
  ITB experiments- 9/26/2002
• - Carry out 15-20 setup shots
• - Verify rotation, fluctuation, Zeff, Ti, MSE,
  diagnostics -- Aim to reproduce shot
  1020926030
• -- outstanding ohmic H-mode (0.5s) with ITB
• No RF needed, studying only ITB onset and
  formation including phase leading to disruption
• Microstability analysis with GS2/GYRO,
• - including nonlinear simulations and comparison
  to
• off-axis RF ITB onset GS2 simulations
