Youth Questions AboutSecond Coming...
  • When will be Christs second coming in glory?
  • What is life going to be like before and during
    Christs return?
  • How do I prepare myself so I will be ready?

5
Wilford WoodruffJournal of Discourses 18111
  • There never was a generation of the inhabitants
of the earth in any age of the world who had
greater events awaiting them than the present.
And an age fraught with greater interest to the
children of men than the one in which we live
never dawned since the creation of the world.

6
Marion G. RomneyConference Report, October 1966
  • I hope we are all familiar with these words of
the Lord and with his predictions concerning
other coming events, such as the building of the
new Jerusalem and the redemption of the old, the
return of Enoch's Zion, and Christ's millennial
reign. Not only do I hope that we are familiar
with these coming events I hope also that we
keep the vision of them continually before our
minds. This I do because upon a knowledge of
them, and an assurance of their reality and a
witness that each of us may have part therein,
rests the efficacy of Christ's admonition, be
    not troubled.

7
Purposes of Prophecy
  • Peace of Mind
  • 23 Behold, I speak these things unto you for the
elect's sake and you also shall hear of wars,
and rumors of wars see that ye be not troubled,
for all I have told you must come to pass but
the end is not yet.(JS-Matt 123)

8
Purposes of Prophecy
  • Peace of Mind
  • Why is it that the Latter-day Saints are
perfectly calm and serene among all the
convulsions of the earth--the turmoils, strife,
war, pestilence, famine, and distress of nations?
It is because the spirit of prophecy has made
known to us that such things would actually
transpire upon the earth. We understand it, and
view it in its true light. We have learned it by
the visions of the Almighty.(JM Grant, Journal
    of Discourses, 2147)

Purposes of Prophecy
  • So We Can Prepare and Repent
  • I know these are unpleasant things. It is not a
pleasant thing even for me to stand here and tell
you that this is written in the scriptures. If
the Lord has a controversy with the nations, He
will put them to the sword. Their bodies shall
lie unburied like dung upon the earth. That is
not nice, is it, but should we not know it? Is it
not our duty to read these things and understand
    them? (continued)

11
Purposes of Prophecy
  • So We Can Prepare and Repent
  • Dont you think the Lord has given us these
things that we might know and we might prepare
    ourselves through humility, through repentance,
through faith, that we might escape from these
dreadful conditions that are portrayed by these
ancient prophets? That is why I am reading them.
I feel just as keenly as you do about the
condition, and I pray for it to come to an end,
but I want it to come to an end right.(Joseph
Fielding Smith, Signs of the Times, p. 154-155)

12
Purposes of Prophecy
  • Strengthen our Faith
  • 5 Telling them of things which must shortly come,
that they might know and remember at the time of
their coming that they had been made known unto
them beforehand, to the intent that they might
    believe.(Helaman 165)

13
Purposes of Prophecy
  • To Keep Us From Being Deceived
  • 37 And whoso treasureth up my word, shall not be
deceived, for the Son of Man shall come, and he
shall send his angels before him with the great
sound of a trumpet, and they shall gather
together the remainder of his elect from the four
winds, from one end of heaven to the other.(JS
    Matt 137)

14
Orson F. WhitneyConference Report, April 1920
  • Saturday Evening of Time
  • According to our Prophet's teachings, God gave to
this planet, Mother Earth, seven thousand years
as the period of "its temporal existence" and
four thousand years, or four of those great days,
had passed before Christ was crucified, while
nearly two thousand years, or two more days, have
gone by since. Consequently, we stand at the
present moment in the Saturday Evening of Time,
near the close of the sixth day, at the week's
end of human history. Morning will break upon the
Millennium, the thousand years of peace, the
    Sabbath of the World.

15
Seven Seals
  • DC 7766 Q. What are we to understand by the
book which John saw, which was sealed on the back
    with seven seals?
  • A. We are to understand that it contains the
revealed will, mysteries, and the works of God
the hidden things of his economy concerning this
earth during the seven thousand years of its
    continuance, or its temporal existence.

16
Seven Seals
  • DC 7777 Q. What are we to understand by the
seven seals with which it was sealed?
  • A. We are to understand that the first seal
contains the things of the first thousand years,
and the second also of the second thousand years,
and so on until the seventh.

17
Seven Seals
  • The world has had a fair trial for six thousand
years the Lord will try the seventh thousand
Himself "He whose right it is, will possess the
kingdom, and reign until He has put all things
under His feet" iniquity will hide its hoary
head, Satan will be bound, and the works of
darkness destroyed righteousness will be put to
the line, and judgment to the plummet, and "he
that fears the Lord will alone be exalted in that
day.(Teachings of the Prophet Joseph Smith,
    5252)

18
When Will the Lord Return?
  • DC 7712
  • 12 Q. What are we to understand by the sounding
of the trumpets, mentioned in the 8th chapter of
    Revelation?

19
Christ Will Return in the 7th Seal
  • DC 7712
  • A. We are to understand that as God made the
world in six days, and on the seventh day he
finished his work, and sanctified it, and also
formed man out of the dust of the earth, even so,
in the beginning of the seventh thousand years
will the Lord God sanctify the earth, and
complete the salvation of man, and judge all
things, and shall redeem all things, except that
which he hath not put into his power, when he
shall have sealed all things, unto the end of all
things and the sounding of the trumpets of the
seven angels are the preparing and finishing of
his work, in the beginning of the seventh
thousand yearsthe preparing of the way before
    the time of his coming.

20
Christ Will Return in the 7th Seal
  • DC 7713
  • 13 Q. When are the things to be accomplished,
which are written in the 9th chapter of
Revelation?A. They are to be accomplished after
the opening of the seventh seal, before the
    coming of Christ.

21
Can the Lord Return Today?
  • Judah must return, Jerusalem must be rebuilt, and
the temple, and water come out from under the
temple, and the waters of the Dead Sea be healed.
It will take some time to rebuild the walls of
the city and the temple, Etc. and all this must
be done before the Son of Man will make his
appearance. There will be wars and rumors of
wars, signs in the heavens above and on the earth
beneath, the sun turned into darkness and the
moon to blood, earthquakes in divers places, the
seas heaving beyond their bounds then will
appear one grand sign of the Son of Man in
heaven. But what will the world do? They will say
it is a planet, a comet, etc. But the Son of Man,
which will be as the light of the morning cometh
out of the east.(History of the Church 5337)

22
Can the Lord Return Today?
  • The people called Millerites, believe in the
second coming of the Savior, and they have set a
great many days when it should take place. But he
did not come and he never will come until the
revelations of God are fulfilled and a people are
prepared for his coming. He will never come until
the Jews are gathered home and have re-built
their Temple and city, and the Gentiles have gone
up there to battle against them. He will never
come until his Saints have built up Zion, and
have fulfilled the revelations which have been
spoken concerning it. He will never come until
the Gentiles throughout the whole Christian world
have been warned by the inspired elders of
    Israel.(Wilford Woodruff, Journal of Discourses,
    18111-112)

23
Can the Lord Return Today?
  • Before the coming of Christ, the great war,
sometimes called Armageddon, will take place as
spoken of by Ezekiel, chapters 38 and 39. Another
war of Gog and Magog will be after the
    millennium.(Joseph Fielding Smith Jr., Doctrines
    of Salvation, Vol.3, p.45)

24
He that feareth me shall be looking forth for the
great day of the Lord to come, even for the signs
of the coming of the Son of Man. (DC 4539)
25
The Battle of Armageddon
  • Revelation 1616 JST
  • 16 And He gathered them together into a place
called in the Hebrew tongue Armageddon.

26
Armageddon(Har Megiddo - Mountain of Megiddo)
27
Gog and Magog
  • Revelation 916
  • 16 And the number of the army of the horsemen
were two hundred thousand thousand and I heard
    the number of them.

28
Gog and MagogShall Come Like a Storm
  • Ezekiel 384,9
  • 4 And I will turn thee back, and put hooks into
thy jaws, and I will bring thee forth, and all
thine army, horses and horsemen, all of them
clothed with all sorts of armour, even a great
company with bucklers and shields, all of them
    handling swords.
  • 9 Thou shalt ascend and come like a storm, thou
shalt be like a cloud to cover the land, thou,
and all thy bands, and many people with thee.

29
Jews Refining FireTwo Thirds of Jews Will Not
Survive
  • Zechariah 138-9
  • 8 And it shall come to pass, that in all the
land, saith the LORD, two parts therein shall be
cut off and die but the third shall be left
    therein.
  • 9 And I will bring the third part through the
fire, and will refine them as silver is refined,
and will try them as gold is tried they shall
call on my name, and I will hear them I will
say, It is my people and they shall say, The
    LORD is my God.

30
Two Prophets
  • DC 7715
  • 15 Q. What is to be understood by the two
witnesses, in the eleventh chapter of
Revelation?A. They are two prophets that are to
be raised up to the Jewish nation in the last
days, at the time of the restoration, and to
prophesy to the Jews after they are gathered and
have built the city of Jerusalem in the land of
    their fathers.

31
Two Prophets 3½ Year Ministry Typifies Christ
  • Revelation 112-3
  • 2 But the court which is without the temple leave
out, and measure it not for it is given unto the
Gentiles and the holy city shall they tread
under foot forty and two months.
  • 3 And I will give power unto my two witnesses,
and they shall prophecy a thousand two hundred
and threescore days, clothed in sackcloth.

32
Two Prophets HavePower Over Elements
  • Revelation 113,4,6
  • 3 And I will give power unto my two
witnesses...4 These are the two olive trees, and
the two candlesticks standing before the God of
the earth.6 These have power to shut heaven,
that it rain not in the days of their prophecy
and have power over waters to turn them to blood,
and to smite the earth with all plagues, as often
    as they will.

33
Two ProphetsWill Become Martyrs
  • Revelation 115,7
  • 5 And if any man will hurt them, fire proceedeth
out of their mouth, and devoureth their enemies
and if any man will hurt them, he must in this
manner be killed.7 And when they shall have
finished their testimony, the beast that
ascendeth out of the bottomless pit shall make
war against them, and shall overcome them, and
    kill them.

34
Gog and MagogWill Not Bury Two Prophets
  • Revelation 118,9
  • 8 And their dead bodies shall lie in the street
of the great city, which spiritually is called
Sodom and Egypt, where also our Lord was
crucified.9 And they of the people and kindreds
and tongues and nations shall see their dead
bodies three days and an half, and shall not
suffer their dead bodies to be put in graves.

35
Savior Provides Way of Escape For Israel
  • Zechariah 144-54 And his feet shall stand in
that day upon the mount of Olives, which is
before Jerusalem on the east, and the mount of
Olives shall cleave in the midst thereof toward
the east and toward the west, and there shall be
a very great valley and half of the mountain
shall remove toward the north, and half of it
    toward the south.
  • 5 And ye shall flee to the valley of the
mountains for the valley of the mountains shall
reach unto Azal yea, ye shall flee, like as ye
fled from before the earthquake in the days of
Uzziah king of Judah and the LORD my God shall
come, and all the saints with thee.

36
Mount of Olives
37
Moses Typified Christ
  • All things which have been given of God from the
beginning of the world, unto man, are the
typifying of him. (2 Nephi 114)
  • The third of the Jews that remain are huddled
against the Mount of Olives in the Kidron Valley
with Gog and Magog descending upon them.
  • Just as Moses divided the Red Sea, the Mount of
Olives divides and provides an escape for the
    Jews from their enemies.
  • Christ is the Deliverer for the Jews spiritually
and physically at the Mount of Olives.

38
A Great Plague
  • A great earthquake, such as was not since men
were upon the earth, so mighty an earthquake, and
    so great.(Revelation 1618-19)
  • Jerusalem is divided into three
    parts.(Revelation 1618-19)
  • And there fell upon men a great hail out of
heaven, every stone about the weight of a talent
    (70 lbs).(Revelation 1621)

39
Judah Will be Converted in One Day
  • DC 4551-5351 And then shall the Jews look upon
me and say What are these wounds in thine hands
    and in thy feet?
  • 52 Then shall they know that I am the Lord for I
will say unto them These wounds are the wounds
with which I was wounded in the house of my
friends. I am he who was lifted up, I am Jesus
that was crucified. I am the Son of God
  • 53 And then shall they weep because of their
iniquities then shall they lament because they
    persecuted their king.

40
Christ will Enter Jerusalem Temple Through Golden
Gate
  • Ezekiel 432, 4
  • 2 And, behold, the glory of the God of Israel
came from the way of the east and his voice was
like a noise of many waters and the earth shined
    with his glory.
  • 4 And the glory of the LORD came into the house
by the way of the gate whose prospect is toward
    the east.

41
The Golden Gate
42
At Night it Will Appear as Day
  • Zechariah 14 6-7
  • 6 And it shall come to pass in that day, that the
light shall not be clear, nor dark
  • 7 But it shall be one day which shall be known to
the LORD, not day, nor night but it shall come
to pass, that at evening time it shall be light.

43
Neal A. Maxwell Conference Report, October 1981
  • Yes, Armageddon lies ahead. But so does
    Adam-ondi-Ahman!

44
Christs Latter-day Appearances
  • Adam-ondi-Ahman
  • Will appear to the righteous Saints who have
gathered to the New Jerusalem here in America.
  • Another appearance of the Lord will be to the
Jews at the Battle of Armageddon.
  • Yet another appearance of Christ will be to the
rest of the world His coming in glory.

45
How Do We Prepare for the Coming Events?
  • DC 4556-57
  • 56 And at that day, when I shall come in my
glory, shall the parable be fulfilled which I
    spake concerning the ten virgins.
  • 57 For they that are wise and have received the
truth, and have taken the Holy Spirit for their
guide, and have not been deceived--verily I say
unto you, they shall not be hewn down and cast
into the fire, but shall abide the day.

46
Ezra Taft Benson The Teachings of Ezra Taft
Benson, 552
  • The way to prepare for the responsibilities of
manhood and womanhood is by living up to the
responsibilities of youth. The way to build a
solid basis for meeting big problems in the
future is by carefully and soberly meeting
    smaller problems in the present.

47
Ezra Taft Benson The Teachings of Ezra Taft
Benson, 106-107
  • There is a real sifting going on in the Church,
and it is going to become more pronounced with
the passing of time. It will sift the wheat from
the tares, because we face some difficult days,
the like of which we have never experienced in
our lives. And those days are going to require
faith and testimony and family unity, the like of
which we have never had. We must prepare for the
great day of the Lord. This preparation must
consist of more than just casual membership in
the Church. We must be guided by personal
revelation and the counsel of the living prophet
so that we will not be deceived.

48
J Reuben Clark, Jr.Conference Report, October
1948
  • Now our Prophet, Joseph Smith, and the prophets
since his time gave certain great principles that
would save the world if the world would but
listen. We do not lack a prophet what we lack is
a listening ear by the people and a determination
to live as God has commanded. That is all we
need. The way has been made perfectly clear.

49
Gordon B. HinckleyConference Report, April 1995
  • This is a time to be strong. It is a time to move
forward without hesitation, knowing well the
meaning, the breadth and the importance of our
mission. It is a time to do what is right
regardless of the consequences that might follow.
It is a time to be found keeping the commandments.
