A Location Quotient (LQ) of 1.0 means that an
industry in the local area has exactly the same
share of employment locally as it does at the
national level. For example, Animal Production
has a LQ of 4.3, which means that their share of
local area employment is 4.3 times higher than it
is at the national level. LQs greater than 1.25
are thought to show above average employment in a
particular industry.
