Facilitation Top Tips
  • This is a fun process that gets results as long
    as the facilitator takes charge
  • Identify a time keeper, scribe and reporter
  • Stick to the timings and order of questions-it
    impacts on the end result
  • Wearing two hats is vital for delegates-have a
    mental list of appropriate stakeholders
  • Stay on track
  • Be proactive and challenge
  • Dont forget to ask questions of all represented
    at the table
  • Be clear about what an outcome is as opposed to
    an output

Making a Difference Promoting Safe and Sensible
Drinking in Coventry
  • After the 2006/7 Needs Assessment was completed,
    it was apparent that areas of baseline data and
    vital action points had yet to be identified.
  • Following the workshop in April, we were able to
    add some of the original action points raised on
    the day to the action plan that now accompanies
    Coventrys first Alcohol Harm Reduction Strategy
  • These outcomes effect local communities and
    service providers, both directly and indirectly.
  • The success of these actions will depend on a
    variety of existing challenges and natural
    barriers.
  • These actions have been instrumental in
    developing new work programmes for key
    partnership agencies

  • Young People
  • It was apparent from the work produced
    during the workshop, that positive actions,
    consultation and involvement, training and
    information were key elements in tackling the
    issues around alcohol misuse among young people.
    Many delegates recognised the links made between
    alcohol, drugs, teenage pregnancy and ASB.
  • Crime and Community Safety
  • An overall need to promote Coventry as a
    safe city, raising the awareness of local
    communities and supporting campaigns that were
    hard hitting were highlighted. Collaborative work
    processes and use of local legislation to
    enhance existing enforcement.

  • Treatment and Care
  • A recognition of the need to focus
    treatment within the community, with resident led
    initiatives. Extend the level of training across
    all health professionals. Definition of the care
    pathway and a robust method of sentencing for
    alcohol related behaviour with alcohol referral
    courts.
  • Licensing and The Alcohol Industry
  • The attitude of retailers and the education
    of local councillors as to licensing regulations
    was highlighted. Improved areas of communication
    and continued use of the Best Bar None and
    Pubwatch Scheme.
