  • You do not need an iPod to podcast
  • Discuss iPods how they work, uses in the
    classroom
  • Get you familiar with the terms associated with
    podcasting and iPods

3
Podcast/Vodcast
  • A podcast is a collection of digital media files
which is distributed over the Internet using
syndication feeds for playback on portable media
    players and personal computers.
  • The term "podcast" is a combination of the words
"iPod" and "broadcast", the Apple iPod being the
brand of portable media player for which the
first podcasting scripts were developed. These
scripts allow podcasts to be automatically
transferred to a mobile device after they are
    downloaded.
  • iTunes allows you to subscribe to podcasts.

4
iPod
  • iPod is a brand of portable media players
designed and marketed by Apple and launched on
    October 23, 2001.

iTunes
  • iTunes is a digital media player application,
introduced by Apple on January 10, 2001 for
playing and organizing digital music and video
    files.
  • The program is also an interface to manage the
contents on Apple's popular iPod digital media
players as well as the iPhone.
  • iTunes can connect to the iTunes Store (provided
an internet connection is present) in order to
purchase and download digital music, music
videos, television shows, iPod games, audiobooks,
various podcasts and in the USA feature length
    films, and ringtones.

6
Quicktime
  • Apples media player that handles common media
formats such as MPEG-4 and MP3.

7
MP4/MPEG-4
  • The format used for video podcasts, based on the
    codec used by Quicktime.

8
sync
  • Synchronization is commonly abbreviated as Synch
    or Sync.
  • Act of transferring audio/video files downloaded
    to iTunes to the iPod.
  • Can be set to happen automatically or manually
    when iPod is attached.

9
RSS
  • RSS ("Really Simple Syndication") is a family of
Web feed formats used to publish frequently
updated content such as blog entries, news
headlines or podcasts. An RSS document, which is
called a "feed", "web feed", or "channel",
contains either a summary of content from an
associated web site or the full text.
  • RSS content can be read using software called an
"RSS reader", "feed reader" or an "aggregator".
The user subscribes to a feed by entering the
feed's link into the reader or by clicking an RSS
icon in a browser that initiates the subscription
    process.

Audacity

    application. Audacity is cross-platform.
