Synteny Defined

• Classical genetics definition Two or more
  genetic loci are syntenic if they are located on
  the same chromosome (even if they are not near
  each other).
• Modern definition Multiple genetic loci from
  different species being located on a chromosomal
  region of common evolutionary ancestry.

Synteny in geWorkbench

• Synteny does comparisons of two large sequences
  and shows areas of similarity between them.
• The similarities are shown with a dot plot.
• The dot plot is displayed along with useful
  annotations.
• The similarities reveal homology between two
  species.

  Synteny Parameters and Synteny.
• Synteny Parameters is in the command area,
  Synteny is in the visual area.
• Synteny Parameters does the work while Synteny
  draws the dot plot.
