  mathematics, science/health, and social studies
  receive grades from the following scale

• When does the designation of W (working on
  standards below grade level) apply?
• The designation of W is targeted for only those
  students, whether regular education, special
  education or Section 504, who have made
  significant efforts toward meeting grade level
  standards, but due to challenges beyond their
  control were not able to meet the
  standard(s). Examples may include, but are not
  limited to the following 1) students who have
  made progress toward grade level standards but
  have not met them due to recent medical concerns,
  2) students with disabilities who have made
  satisfactory progress toward IEP goals, but have
  not met the grade level standard 3) students who
  have challenges associated with mastering the
  English language, and in spite of making progress
  toward meeting standards, have not been able to
  do so 4) other like situations. Attachments to
  the report card for students receiving this
  designation may include IEP progress reports for
  students on an IEP, or other appropriate progress
  reports for students not on an IEP.
