EXISTING PROBLEMS WITH CALENDAR
  • 1. School district calendars have changed
    recently
  • The school year starts earlier in the fall and
    ends earlier in the spring
  • Solution FHSAA athletic calendar should
    change similarly

EXISTING PROBLEMS WITH CALENDAR
  • 2. Basketball state series overlaps with FCAT
    testing
  • This impedes academic progress of these
    student-athletes
  • Solution Move up the basketball season

EXISTING PROBLEMS WITH CALENDAR
  • 3. Scheduling difficulties brought about by
    shortened regular seasons
  • Open date in football eliminated 4 years ago
  • Volleyball season shortened due to changes in
    state series format
  • Solution Add 1 week to certain sports regular
    seasons

EXISTING PROBLEMS WITH CALENDAR
  • 4. Cross country and swimming diving
    championships on the same weekend
  • This forces student-athletes to make an
    unnecessary choice, especially in mid-size and
    smaller schools
  • Solution Separate these two events

FALL SPORT CHANGES
  • Footballstart practice one week earlier
  • 2-a-day practices could be possible
  • Preseason classics one week earlier
  • First playing date one week earlier
  • Extend regular season to 11 weeks (10 games)
  • State championship games for 6A, 5A, 4A, and 3A
    held the same weekend
  • State championship games for 1A, 1B, 2A, and 2B
    may be held one week earlier
  • These classifications have only 8 districts
