RESPONSIBLE PARENTING MOVEMENT

• Objective
• To empower Filipino families in order to
• make couples aware of their basic
  responsibilities as parents, awakening in them a
  sense or responsibility and commitment towards
  their family, neighbors, community, society, and
  the nation as a whole
• Consider responsible parenting as a way of life
  towards the attainment of sustainable human
  development

• Parenthood
• The state of being a parent.
• Traditionally, it means being a father or mother
  of your biological child.

• The skills, experiences, abilities, and
  responsibilities involved in rearing and
  educating a child.
• The will and the ability of parents to respond to
  the needs and aspirations of the family and
  children.

• The series of decisions couples make to ensure
  the best possible life for the family and for the
  community they belong to.

• RPM Classes
• To mobilize the critical mass of parents who will
  compose the movement, classes on responsible
  parenting will be held in every barangay.

• Married couples of child bearing age who want to
  practice birth spacing through NFP
• Willing to recruit other couples to be members of
  the RPM

• RPM sessions will be conducted for 8 hours

Why focus on Natural Family Planning

• To give equal emphasis in the promotion of FP
  services and to give better option for users of
  traditional methods to shift to scientific NFP

• To reduce the unmet need for family planning
  services
• Fear of side effects and other health reasons
• Husbands objection
• Culture, tradition, and religious beliefs
• Availability, accessibility, and affordability of
  FP services

  technology can be learned once and transferred to
  many)

• NFP users will be sustained/coached through home
  visits
• Attendees of RPM classes are encouraged to form
  into federations

• For 2007-2010, 4.2 million couples should have
  been reached
• (10 classes/barangay x 10 couples/class x 42,000
  barangays)

  Federation
