What is RDP?
  • It is a commitment by each member company.
  • Complies with relevant environmental, health,
    safety, and security (EHSS) regulations as they
    apply to company operations.
  • Assists in achieving the industrys collective
    objectives of improved EHSS.

    distribution industrys responsible management of

    to the RDP Guiding Principles.

Developing Your RDP Program
  • Members Pledge to Achieve Six Milestones
  • 1. Designate a code coordinator
  • 2. Have a code coordinator attend a workshop
  • 3. Review RDP requirements with management
    (Senior Management Commitment)
  • 4. Management conducts initial assessment of
    companys compliance with RDP by filling out the
    five stages of the Self-Assessment Report (SAR)
  • 5. All policies and procedures on SAR are
    completed
  • 6. Company comes into compliance and are then
    verified by NACDs third-party verifiers

  • Reviews EHSS performance for Code of Management
    Practice
  • Checks for any continual improvement
    opportunities
  • Guides NACD Members through the SARs various

Policies Procedures
  • RDP Policies
  • Policies are broad statements of your
    organizations position/approach to an issue
  • Policy statements must suit the needs of your
    company
  • Policy statements must be written for every RDP
    Code and each Code element
  • Policy statements are written in the active voice
    and direct you to positive action steps that
    comprise implementation
  • Do not detail implementation procedures in a
    policy statement

  • Implementation procedures are separate statements
    that detail your policies
  • Procedures state how your company implements your
    policies

  • Do not write policies and procedures (PPs) for
    every aspect of your business, just those that
    apply to the specific areas covered under RDP.
  • Where applicable, use existing written company
    policies to comply be certain to document them
    with the rest of your RDP policies and procedures.

RDP Document Verification
  • NACDs third-party verification firm conducts the
    RDP document verifications.
  • It is a contractual arrangement between the
    Candidate Member and the verification firm.

  • Candidates must submit their written RDP policies
    and procedures by December 31 of the year
    following the approval of their membership
    application. (Applying companies are referred to
    as Candidates until compliant with RDP.)

Becoming A Regular NACD Member
  • The verification firm confirms with NACD that the
    Candidate has submitted their RDP Policies and
    Procedures and the PPs satisfy the requirements
    of document verification (each element within
    each of the 12 sections of the RDP Code of
    Management Practice, as they apply to your
    operations).
  • Use the SAR as an internal audit tool each year
    to update your RDP policies and procedures after
    becoming a member.

Congratulations!
  • Verifier will send you a certificate.
  • Upon notification by verifier, NACD will send the
    new Regular NACD Member a congratulatory letter
    and RDP and NACD logos and logo rules
  • Refer customers and suppliers to www.nacd.com for
    your listing as a Regular Member!
