Purpose of Camping Trip
  • To encourage students to get to know all of their
    classmates
  • To offer students opportunities to enrich their
    personal growth
  • To transplant our 6th grade curriculum to the
    outdoor environment for 3 days

Important Information
  • Dates of trip MAY 27, 28, 29, 2009
  • Camp Canadensis in Canadensis, PA
  • Approximately 2.5 hours away
  • Check out their website www.canadensis.org

Transportation specifics
  • Travel by coach bus
  • Depart Wednesday HMS at 7 AM
  • Return Friday at approx. 4 PM

Cabins
  • Student choice of 3 friends to bunk with
  • 9-12 students total in cabin
  • 2-3 parent chaperones in cabin (dads with males,
    moms with females)
  • Electricity and running water in all cabins

Activities - what we do!
  • Randomly selected groups of 21-24 students and
    4-6 parent chaperones
  • Students are encouraged to try all activities
  • Examples include boating, cooperative games,
    orienteering, swimming, t-shirt art, climbing
    the wall, cooking, pond study, floor hockey,
    bracelet art

Meals
  • Many selections for breakfast, lunch and dinner
  • Sensitive to all food allergies/ peanut-free
    facility

Medical concerns
  • Nurses facility staffed 24 hours a day with
    certified nurses and MD (provided we have a
    volunteer)
  • Medication distribution is confidential
  • All medication (prescribed and OTC must be in
    original container)
  • OTC meds need a doctors note

Cost of Camping trip
  • 130 per student, includes bus, room/board, all
    activities
  • Check or money order only
  • Installments due by November 21st and February
    20th
  • Scullin Fund accessed through 6th grade office

Parent Chaperones
  • All applicants must fill out application in full
  • Preference given to those with medical experience
    first
  • All other parents chosen through a lottery system
  • Once selected, all chaperones must fill out
    clearances
  • Chaperone cost is 90

  • Cut-off date to make decision to attend camp
    April 1, 2009
  • (drops only after that date)
  • Discipline issues can keep students off of the
    trip
  • Check your schedules now for the Camping Trip on
    May 27, 28, 29, 2009
