CSNs An integral element of the Single System
for Sport but what are they?
  • A locally co-ordinated network whose core
    functions are
  • To increase participation in sport and physical
    activity by 1 each year
  • - 30mins x 3 times a week
  • To widen access to opportunities. Focus on SEs
    priorities for East Midlands
  • (Areas of deprivation, 45yrs males females
  • BME, People with disabilities, 16yrs females)

5
CSNs will aim to
  • Comprise of a group of local partners from
various and relevant organisations to represent
sport and physical activity in each district.
  • Identify local needs and potential interventions.
  • Develop a shared vision and create an action plan
    that feeds into CSP.

6
CSNs will aim to
  • Secure resources from a broad range of partners
to deliver identified interventions within action
    plan.
  • Build capacity to increase participation and
widen access to opportunities with emphasis on
    people rather than places
  • - develop clubs, coaches and volunteers

7
A CSN that works for us
  • There is not a prescribed structure for CSNs
  • A coordinated network to suit the district that
    is responsive to local need.
  • Already many established networks across country
  • Bedford, Leicestershire, West Yorkshire
  • Supported by N-Sport, the CSP and linked to or
working towards a link the LSP and LAA.

8
CSN ExampleLeicester-Shire Rutland Local
Sport Alliances (LSA)
  • CSP represents 10 districts, each with a LSA
  • Some more advanced than others but all are
    operational and effective.
  • Key achievements identified from Leicester-Shire
    Rutlands LSA annual review include
  • Links to Local Strategic Partnerships.
  • A significant increase in local clubs achieving
    CLUBMARK accreditation.
  • SE CIF funded Multi-Sports coaches appointed in
    number of districts.
  • Buy in from LSA partners.
  • Celebration Communication awards
    ceremonies, sports / recruitment days.
  • Workforce development.
  • Recognised by SE as model of good practice.

9
Benefits of having CSNs
  • All partners working to a shared vision.
  • A formalised Partnership that is a recognised
network at a local, county and regional level.
  • - raise profile and celebrate success
  • - share good practice with other CSNs in
    county
  • To avoid duplication within existing groups
  • - maximise usage of joint resources.
  • Clarity of partner roles in community
  • - compliment each others objectives
  • - improve communication

10
Benefits of having CSNs
  • An action orientated hub not a talking shop.
  • To act as a mechanism for the LSP to channel
    through.
  • To potentially be responsible for creating the
    local plan for the CSP.
  • To be accountable and give confidence to
investors by operating as a network.
  • To work in partnership to seek and secure funding.

11
Update on District CSNs
  • Northampton vision, TOR and action plan agreed
next meeting beginning of September 2006.
  • Corby CRISP transforming to CSN, visionary
    morning in July 2006.
  • East Northamptonshire Kettering 1st CSN
    meeting confirmed for July 2006.
  • Wellingborough South Northamptonshire 1st
meeting to be confirmed sometime in September
    2006.
