Berastagi Floriculture (Cut flower)

• Current condition
• Small farmers produce a wide range of temperate
  flowers.
• The predominant commercial species is
  chrysanthemum field grown or grown under
  shade-house.
• The farmers do not deliver to the market in
  Medan, nor do wholesaling or retail sales in that
  city market. Instead wholesalers in Medan send
  trucks up to Berastagi to collect the flowers at
  a central.
• Isolation from normal agri. Extension and from
  market information.
• Most Production of chrysanthemum is in the
  cultivation beds.
• Old planting material with varieties that are not
  disease resistant
• Do not cover the whole value chain spectrum

• Improving production
• Continuous supply, and overall quality of cut
  chrysanthemum and other ornamentals and cut
  foliage for the local market.
• Increased returns of farmers

• Work together with Farmers Group ( Kelompok Tani)
  
• Training farmers by giving direction through
  lectures and pointers on greenhouse production
  system
• Develop demonstration plot (Greenhouse demo
  prototype)
• Harvesting post harvest handling,
