• From at least A.D.1000 a group of farming Indians
  was living in northwest Florida. They were the
  Apalachees. Other Florida Indians regarded the
  Apalachees as being wealthy and fierce.

How they lived

• There were about 50 to 60 thousand Apalachees.
  They were a powerful tribe living in widely
  dispersed villages.

Where they lived

• The Apalachees territory was from the Aucilla
  River to the Ochlockone River in the west.
  Apalachee settlements were concentrated in todays
  Leonard Jefferson Counties.

What happened to them

• Following a couple of devastating attacks on
  Spanish Florida by the British and the Creek
  Indians the allies misson San Luis was killed and
  left behind by his residents on July 31 1704.
