  • Computers were accessible, but not really used
  • If papers were due then they were expected to be
    typed (Bravo)

  • Two computers in the classroom, but were only for
    teacher use
  • Really no need for computer work

Description of Classroom Instructional and Social
  • Classrooms were organized and orderly
  • Respectful social interactions amongst students
    (Foshay)
  • Structured teaching methods and plans with
    relaxation when needed
  • Classrooms with and without seating charts
  • Classrooms decorated, some had windows, but
    students faced away from them.
  • Rooms kept very cold with AC.

Population of Students
  • Class size ranged from 20-30
  • 9th grade (13-14 yrs. old)
  • 3rd grade (7-8 yrs. old)
  • Students from surrounding LA area
  • Mainly Hispanic and African American (a lot of
    Asian in Bravo)

Interactions Amongst Teacher and Student
  • Strengths
  • Helpful in working through problems and questions
  • Encouraged student participation
  • Offered positive reinforcement when necessary
  • Showed concern for the students education
  • Weaknesses
  • Embarrasses kids in front of the class (English
    classes)
  • Insults and put downs were obvious
  • Negative tone and reinforcement
  • Cliques and disrespect amongst students
  • Some interactions were not allowed amongst
    students

Emotional Responses to Classroom Observations
  • Julia- Horrified and shocked and in disbelief
    over how rudely and insensitively the teacher
    treated certain students.
  • Kelli- Disheartened by the education that
    students were receiving, not receiving
    instruction that is beneficial to their future,
    awful teaching techniques.
  • Bethany- admired the efforts the teacher made to
    reach out to the students, sad that students had
    low grades in the class despite the teachers
    efforts.
  • Amada- classroom and lessons were structured and
    orderly, teacher followed standards and
    frameworks, they were clearly visible.
