  • Objectives and policies flow from analysis of
    Citys transport problems
  • Sets out 3 year plan for transport, in line with
    20 year policy
  • Last full LTS submitted October 2000 after large
    scale public consultation
  • Update adopted by Council 22nd January 2004 but
    now we need a new one!

Local Transport Strategy
  • Reduce congestion.
  • Increase proportion of journeys made on foot, by
    cycle and by public transport.
  • Reduce need to travel, especially by car.
  • Reduce road accidents and environmental damage.
  • Maximise the community role of streets.
  • Improve ability of people with low incomes or
    mobility. impairments to use the transport
    system.
  • Ensure that the road, footway and cycle network
    are suitable for safe and comfortable movement.

  • To achieve a high quality public transport
    system.
  • To create an environment where walking and
    cycling are attractive options.
  • To enable effective and efficient car use.
  • To use car parking to support traditional
    shopping centres.
  • To achieve a measurable improvement in condition

  • ParkRide sites opened at Newcraighall and
    Ferrytoll (the latter by Fife Council)
  • Bus use is now rising throughout the city.
  • 12.5km of new bus lanes giving priority to buses
    installed
  • On and off-road cycleways implemented in 21
    locations across the City.
  • 50 junctions with advanced stop lines.
  • Pedestrian stages added at 30 signalled
    junctions.
  • 16 Accident Investigation and Prevention (AIP)
    schemes completed.

  • New Bus Station opened, with modern facilities
    for longer distance bus passengers.
  • CrossRail opened in June 2002, with new railway
    stations at Brunstane and Newcraighall.
