• Two-fold aim
• To give people who would be considered
  marginalised the opportunity to study music to a
  qualification standard
• To improve the standard of musicianship both
  locally and nationally

EVALUATION

• Feasibility Study was performed in 1993 to
  ascertain the potential for Employment in the
  music industry
• This study proved positive and enabled us to
  develop the Academys Syllabus of Training

History Cork Academy of Music

• Established 1994
• Voluntary Initiative
• Since 1994, 700 students from the North side
  communities of Cork City have taken music grade
  exams.
• Over 40 students successfully completed,
  third-level education in various institutes
  throughout Ireland and abroad.

SERVICES

• To give people a qualification in Music Skills to
  enable
• them to find employment within the Music Industry
  or
• to go on to Third-level education
• To Support, motivate and enhance the lives
• and self- esteem of each student by providing
• training and social skills in the following
  areas
• Music Skills (Theory Instrument Training)
• Social Skills (Personal Skills, Interpersonal
• Skills, Communication and Computer Training)

FINANCIAL CONTRIBUTIONS

INTERNATIONAL JAZZ SUMMER SCHOOL

• The Academy has been organising this for 9 years.
• Intensive week-long course in Jazz studies where
  students can learn or improve their skills on how
  to play an instrument or sing. They are also
  given an opportunity to perform at the end of the
  week with a final concert.

• The Academy has provided music training programme
  for Primary Teachers on how to teach music.
• We also co-ordinate a training network initiative
  on training music instructors.
