Purpose
  • The purpose of have an Early and Safe Return to
    Work (ESRTW) program is to ensure that a strong
    relationship between the employer and employee is
    maintained during absence from the workplace due
    to work related injuries.

Scope
  • The employer maintains a documented ESRTW program
    that includes
  • Roles and responsibilities
  • Contact with the injured worker
  • Medical monitoring and treatment
  • Provisions for modified work
  • Re-integration of the worker to regular work
  • Reporting requirements to the WSIB

Control Points
  • Management will set the standard for
    communicating the ESRTW program. All employees
    will be affected, the managers and the JHSC will
    audit to the standard.

Responsibilities and Authority
  • The management team is responsible to inform the
    employees of the ESRTW program through the new
    employee orientation program with the HS
    coordinator.
  • Management will monitor activities and evaluate
    effectiveness.
  • The JHSC will audit to ensure that the employees
    are meeting the companys standards.

WORKPLACE SAFETY INSURANCE ACT
  • As stated in the Workplace Safety Insurance Act
    part V, section 40, that the employer follows all
    duties to co-operate in the return to work
    program.

Communicate the Standard
  • The standards that are adopted for the ESRTW
    program will be communicated during the new
    employee orientation program, management
    meetings, JHSC meetings, safety talks and will be
    documented in the employee file.

Training
  • All Staffing Specialists will receive training
    upon hire and a review annually thereafter from a
    competent individual to assist in the effective
    delivery of the policy and procedure for all
    associates.

  • How the Medical Monitoring and treatment program
    works

Training Cont.
  • The Staffing Specialist will be responsible to
    provide the training overview of the program to
    each associate so that there is a clear
    understanding of the procedure of the policy.

Evaluation
  • This standard is reviewed on an annual basis by
    the Joint Health and Safety Committee to ensure
    all standards are current.
  • Management will review all recommendations from
    the JHSC and will implement the standard.

    the objectives to provide a healthy and safe

  • Once the program has been cross referenced to the
    above standards, the JHSC will evaluate the
    accuracy of each claim, ensure that steps 1-6 in
    the training section have been followed and
    provide suggestions for improvement or commend
    the necessary Staffing Specialist.
