  • The following wastes are not accepted at landfill
    under the Directive
  • Liquid waste
  • Waste which, in the conditions of the landfill is
    explosive, corrosive, oxidising, highly flammable
    or flammable (as defined in Annex III of
    Directive 91/689/EEC)
  • Hospital and other clinical waste from medical or
    veterinary establishments which are defined as
    infectious under Directive 91/689/EEC
  • Whole used tyres and shredded used tyres
    (excluding bicycle tyres and those with an
    outside diameter above 1,400 mm), and
  • Any other type of waste that does not fulfil the
    acceptance criteria determined in accordance with
    Annex II.
  • Only hazardous waste that fulfils the criteria in
    Annex II may be disposed of in a hazardous
    landfill. Landfill for non-hazardous waste may
    be used or

  • Two former co disposal sites may accept
    stabilised hazardous waste
  • Landfill residual capacity low in East lt 1.5yrs,
    high in Southern Group 8 yrs and moderate in
    North West group 5 yrs
  • Recycling achieving 15 (Q4 2004)
  • Kerbside rising to cover 40 of households

    circa 15 million m3 capacity
  • No applications for hazardous waste landfill
