Its All About Playing In The GIG!
4
What is a GIG?
  • DOD defines the GIG as
  • a globally interconnected, end-to-end set of
    information capabilities, associated processes,
    and personnel for collecting, processing,
    storing, disseminating, and managing information.

5
GIG Future State Capabilities
Today ---------------- ...Tomorrow
Plenty of Engineering Challenges
6
GIG Development Challenges
21 Billion Investment
Development From 2004 Thru 2009
7
Organizational Charter
  • Establish an Institute-Wide integrated,
collaborative TAC body that influences national
NCO policy and technology migration leveraging
    TACs technical committees knowledge breadth
depth to support the development/adaptation of
    products/services that advance the
    state-of-the-art in Network Centric Operations.

8
Organizational Charter (continued)
  • Provide a Horizontal TAC integration vehicle for
providing policy and position papers that impact
focused issues for Congress (funding and policy),
DoD and DHS (end users), FAA (NAS C2), or the FCC
(spectrum control and allocation) for improving
    our national security.

9
Organizational Charter (continued)
  • Provide a forum for identification and
    prioritization of key industry-wide NCO
technology challenges and gaps to influence
    feeder markets (e.g. commercial IT)
  • Examples
  • Secure, mobile ad-hoc wireless networking
  • Multi-level network security
  • Scaleable, open information management
    infrastructures
  • Tools for network enabling legacy systems
  • Effects-based modeling and simulation tools for
    assessing benefits of NCO

10
Internal PC Organization
  • An Executive Steering Committee composed of five
people (including the chairman) will be formed to
help direct these two sub-committees and assist
with the TAC Directorate TC liaisons and program
    task commitments.
  • NCO Commercial-Based Sub-Committee - CBSC
(Deputy Chairman) Any AIAA member or technology
expert working in NCO related technologies and in
good standing with the US government and local
    authorities.
