  • Reflect array element
  •   A circularly polarised signal can be thought of
    as two orthogonal linearly polarised signals with
    90? phase shift between them. If upon reflection
    both LP components are phase reversed by 180?
    then the incident CP signal is reflected with the
    opposite hand of polarisation. If only one
    component of the incident LP signal is reflected
    with a phase reversal of 180? then the CP signal
    will be reflected with the same hand of CP as the
    incident signal had.
  • The simplest means we found for achieving this
    was to place a resonant dipole antenna, at
    one-quarter wavelength above a ground plane. When
    the dipole is rotated the reflection phase can be
    controlled and steering of the antenna pattern
    obtained. An array of antennae has been designed
    and will be fabricated using MEMS technology.
