Principle one Source Credibility
  • involves a set of perceptions about the sources
    held by the receivers of audiences.
  • The characteristics of credible sources include
    trustworthiness, expertise, dynamism, physical
    attractiveness, and perceived similarities.

Trustworthiness
  • If the source can not be trusted, then the
    audience will not listen to them.
  • People do not like to be fooled or feel like they
    have been lied to.

Expertise
  • The more the source knows, the more they will be
    believed.
  • The audience is there to learn, so the speaker
    must know what they are talking about.

Physical Attractiveness
  • The more interesting the speaker and the material
    is, the more likely the audience will respond.

Perceived Similarities
  • People are always looking for the common ground
    between them.
  • The speaker must connect with their audience
    through personal experience or the audience will
    not respond.

Keep in mind
  • There should be some consideration in selecting
    individuals to represent the organization.
  • The individuals are the face of the organization,
    so they need to be a good representative of the
    organization

Principle two Nonverbal cues
  • Not everything we say is with our mouths.
  • Nonverbal cues involves choosing appropriate
    symbols to represent the organization or cause.

What are some nonverbal cues?
  • Sound All noise in the room, both from the
    speaker and audience.
  • Colors On the walls, posters, handouts
  • Room layout How everything is arranged from the
    desks to the walls.
